Hospital Blunder

Shocking…X-ray clearly shows massive forceps left inside patient after operation.

Fox News - A British mother spent three months in agony after doctors left a 7-inch set of forceps inside her during a routine operation, The Sun reported.

The 39-year-old nurse was in agony for THREE MONTHS after the hospital blunder. Donna Bowett, who is just over 5ft, went in for surgery to remove her gall bladder a year ago.

She said: "I could hardly move, I was in so much pain. The doctors thought I had a water infection or another gallstone."

She was given an MRI scan at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, Worcestershire - but the magnets tried to pull the metal forceps through her SKIN.

The mother of four said: "The pain was horrendous. I started crying and they asked me if I had anything metal on me."

Donna said a medic even joked: "The times of leaving instruments inside you are long gone." She finally had an X-ray at Worcestershire Hospital, where she works. The scan detected the forceps.

Donna, who is taking legal action, said: "I still can't believe it's happened in this day and age. "I was so ill and grey. I'm still not right - it might have damaged my internal organs."

John Rostill, chief executive of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, called it "extremely unusual", adding: "We would like to apologise unreservedly. "We have taken steps to further improve standards of safety."
