People ask me what my motivation is for walking everyday. It’s simple; it’s the one thing that I do for myself that I truly enjoy! Everyday I choose walking as my top priority of “things to do”; everything else follows.

I make a point of walking at least one to three miles a day. I usually walk three, regardless of the weather conditions. Three years ago I entered the UltraMeal Challenge Contest* and worked hard at getting healthy and reaching my goals. With Dr. Kolbaba’s health coaching, a controlled diet and walking six miles a day, I went from a size 12 to a size 2-4. Today, I maintain my health and weight using this same criteria.

When I started working for Dr. Kolbaba, our staff went on a field trip to the Museum of Science & Industry to see the “Body Worlds” exhibit. One of the cross-section displays featured a cadaver, which illustrated how excessive fat can overtake the body and press against the organs. I think of that display often, and decided I never want to be in that kind of condition!

My advice to those of you looking to lose weight: if you are eating right and exercising (walking) and you are not losing, walk more and be consistent. I had great results when I increased my walking to six miles a day, three in the morning and three at night. If you are serious about your health, you CAN find the time to walk!

Having reached my goal, I walk everyday to maintain my health and enjoyment. I feel great, I’m rarely sick, and my blood pressure is that of an athlete - and that’s just from walking consistently everyday! You can do it, too!

Dr. Kolbaba adds:

It is true that our legs are designed more for walking, than our butts are made for sitting! So, the first thing to do, is get off our butts and get out there in life, on our feet!

Walking burns as many calories as running or jogging. Sure, it will take you longer walking those calories off at three miles an hour as compared to running, but the advantages of walking will be well worth it in the long run! Running or jogging places added stresses on the whole body system, during and after the activity.

It is best to choose uneven surfaces to walk, jog, or run, not those flat and perfect surfaces most people tend to choose. Get your Computerized Foot Gait Scan done so that customized foot orthotics can be made for your shoes. Customized foot orthotics add more years and miles to your feet and legs!

I wouldn’t go anywhere, walking, jogging or running, without my customized foot orthotics!
